Epiphany 2025: The Politics of Jesus
Who was Jesus? And how was this first-century political revolutionary, whose teachings are meant to lead the way to freedom, turned into a meek and mild servant of the status quo? How is it possible to profess a belief in Jesus, yet ignore the suffering of people who are poor, marginalized and disregarded?
This year during Epiphany we will ask these questions as we work with the writings of Rev. Dr. Obery Hendricks Jr. in his book The Politics of Jesus: Rediscovering the True Revolutionary Nature of Jesus’ Teachings and How They Have Been Corrupted.
We will begin to rediscover and recast the life and message of an oft passively portrayed Jesus using familiar scripture passages and uncovering new meaning in them.
During this season we will invite you to enter the sanctuary prepared to experience worship from a different perspective. The chairs in the sanctuary will face a different direction, symbolizing an opportunity to, like the Magi, look at things another way.
We will begin this worship series in the Commons where we will share a meal – communion – together.
We hope you will join us for this series entitled: The Politics of Jesus.
